⚾ Welcome to First Pitch - Today is Friday, April 10th

Editor’s Note

Short slate on Thursday, but we still got some absolute bangers.

Out west, the Padres walked off the Rockies in extras after a wild back-and-forth game. Xander Bogaerts launched a grand slam that had Don Orsillo losing his mind on the call as usual.

Over in NYC, the Mets and D-backs delivered another great one, with Eduardo Rodriguez and Nolan McLean going toe-to-toe in a pitching duel just weeks after their WBC matchup.

Full updates and highlights from both games below.

Quick heads up, I’ll be out of town this weekend but still planning to send out First Pitch as usual. If nothing hits your inbox, just assume I’m having a little too much fun.

Hope you all have a great Friday. Should be an awesome weekend of baseball…

And of course we’ll be tuned into the Masters. My Bryson DeChambeau pick in our friends group pool is not looking too hot right now, so we might need a miracle heading into the weekend.

Diamondbacks 7, Mets 1 — Arizona erupts late to back Rodriguez in series win

The Diamondbacks broke things open late, riding a dominant stretch from Eduardo Rodriguez before exploding for a comeback win over the Mets.

Arizona trailed early after a solo shot from Luis Robert Jr., but Rodriguez kept things steady, limiting the damage and giving his team a chance. He delivered a strong six-inning outing, allowing just one run.

The offense finally broke through in the seventh. After grinding out baserunners, Gabriel Moreno tied it with an RBI double, and the floodgates opened from there. Alek Thomas and Jorge Barrosa followed with run-scoring plays to cap a four-run inning.

They piled on three more in the eighth to put it out of reach, turning a tight duel into a blowout.

A complete team win for Arizona, who stayed patient and struck when it mattered most.

The game had been back-and-forth all night. Brenton Doyle opened the scoring with a solo shot, while Fernando Tatis Jr. answered with a sac fly. The Rockies grabbed leads in both the 10th and 11th, but San Diego kept responding — highlighted by Manny Machado’s game-tying sac fly and Luis Campusano’s clutch RBI double.
