⚾ Welcome to First Pitch - Today is Sunday, April 5th

Editor’s Note

One of the reasons I started First Pitch is because I kept finding myself missing insane moments on random MLB nights. The kind of plays that you normally see and just sit there in disbelief. I figured if I had that problem, others probably did too.

Nights like Saturday are exactly why this newsletter exists. I love nothing more than getting to share moments like this with you.

Last night in Los Angeles, Jo Adell robbed THREE home runs in a 1-0 Angels win over the Mariners. Not one, not two, but three. And to top it off, the last two came in the 8th and 9th innings to protect a one-run lead. I’ve watched it about 100 times and I legit have never seen anything like this before.

The final robbery is just absurd, check out the clips below:

Alternate Angle:

I’m honestly speechless. The fact that all of this happened in a one-run game makes it even crazier. What a moment for Adell, Angels fans, and the game of baseball.

Cheers to a great weekend. Happy Easter to those celebrating, and don’t forget to give your friends and family a hug.

Yankees 9, Marlins 7 — Stanton comes through late as Yankees rally again

The Yankees found themselves in a hole early after the Marlins jumped out in front, but they kept chipping away and never let the game get away from them. Cody Bellinger got them back in it with a two run homer in the fifth, then New York pushed across three more in the sixth behind run-scoring hits from Trent Grisham and Aaron Judge before Bellinger added a sac fly to give them their first lead.

The game tightened back up in the eighth when the Marlins tied it, but the Yankees answered again. Giancarlo Stanton had already made an impact on the bases earlier in the game, stealing second and coming around to score, then he came through with the biggest swing of the night by lining a go-ahead two run single in the bottom of the eighth.

It got tense in the ninth with the tying runs on base, but David Bednar worked through the traffic and closed it out. It wasn’t clean, but the Yankees found a way again.

Padres 3, Red Sox 2 — Laureano delivers late as Padres steal one at Fenway

The Padres scratched out just enough offense and came through when it mattered most, pulling ahead in the ninth to edge the Red Sox.

After Boston tied things in the eighth, Fernando Tatis Jr. kept the inning alive with a clutch two-out double, setting the stage for Ramón Laureano, who ripped a go-ahead RBI single to give San Diego the lead.

Earlier in the game, Freddy Fermin drove in a run with a double while Bryce Johnson added an RBI groundout to help build the initial lead. The offense wasn’t explosive, but it was timely.

On the mound, Randy Vásquez gave the Padres a strong six innings, allowing just one run. The bullpen bent late but closed it out behind Mason Miller, who struck out the side in the ninth to lock it down.

Dodgers 10, Nationals 5 — Pages stays red-hot as Dodgers roll

The Dodgers offense stayed scorching, piling up runs early and never letting the Nationals back into it.

Freddie Freeman set the tone with a pair of two-run doubles in the first two innings, quickly giving Los Angeles a big lead. From there, the lineup kept applying pressure with traffic all night.

The biggest swing came from Andy Pages, who continued his ridiculous start to the season with a three-run homer in the fifth. He added multiple hits, stole a base, and once again looked like the hottest hitter in baseball.

On the mound, Tyler Glasnow was dominant, striking out nine over six innings while allowing just two runs to keep the game firmly under control.

The Dodgers lineup looks as deep as ever early on, and with Pages locked in like this, it’s becoming a nightmare for opposing pitching staffs.

📊 Key Stats

Dodgers

  • Andy Pages: 3-5, HR, 3 RBI, 2 R, SB

  • Freddie Freeman: 2-5, 2 2B, 4 RBI
