Athletics 12, Astros 10 — Rooker walks it off in wild finish for A’s

The Athletics looked like they had this one in hand, then had to win it all over again.

After falling behind early, the A’s stormed back with a huge fifth inning, highlighted by Tyler Soderstrom’s bases-clearing triple. Later, Brent Rooker gave them another lift with a two run homer in the seventh, and it looked like that might be enough.

It wasn’t. The Astros came charging back with four runs in the eighth and then grabbed the lead in the 10th, putting the A’s in a tough spot. But they answered one more time.

With two men on in the bottom of the 10th, Rooker crushed a walk-off three run homer to left and ended a game that turned into complete chaos late. He finished with two homers and drove in half of Oakland’s runs all by himself.

Dodgers 8, Nationals 6 — Dodgers storm back after rough Sasaki outing

The Dodgers looked like they might waste an early lead after Roki Sasaki ran into trouble in the middle innings. Shohei Ohtani opened the scoring with a solo homer in the third, but the Nationals answered quickly with a two-run shot from Luis García Jr. and then a three-run blast from James Wood to grab control.

Sasaki still managed to get through five innings, which ended up mattering. The Dodgers chipped away in the sixth on a two-run homer from Dalton Rushing, then flipped the game in the eighth. Santiago Espinal came through with a two-run single, Kyle Tucker brought home the tying run on a forceout, and Ohtani followed with a go-ahead sac fly.

Angels 8, Mariners 7 — Schanuel finishes wild comeback after Klassen’s debut

The Angels needed just about everybody in this one, and they found a way to finish it off in extras.

With George Klassen making his Major League debut on short notice, the game had plenty of traffic early. He battled through 2.2 innings, gave up two runs, and worked around a lot of nerves and long counts to keep the Angels in it. From there, the bullpen had to carry a heavy load.

Offensively, Los Angeles kept answering. Jorge Soler drove in a pair early, Nolan Schanuel added an RBI single, and Adam Frazier came through with a big hit in the fifth to put the Angels back on top. After the Mariners tied it in the ninth and then grabbed the lead in the 10th, Logan O’Hoppe answered with a sac fly to force another inning.

That set up the 11th, where the Angels played clean situational baseball. Frazier started on second, Zach Neto was intentionally walked, Oswald Peraza dropped down the bunt, and Schanuel lifted the walk-off sac fly to end it.
