⚾ Dodgers Win 18-Inning Classic on Freeman Walk-Off
What an absolutely insane Game 3. This was one of the best postseason games I’ve watched in a long, long time.
In shades of their 2018 marathon win over Boston, the Dodgers once again outlasted their opponent in an 18-inning classic, walking it off on a Freddie Freeman homer to beat the Blue Jays and take Game 3.
So many storylines came out of this one. Eric Lauer was fantastic in long relief for Toronto, tossing 4 2/3 shutout innings to keep the Jays alive. On the other side, Will Klein was nothing short of spectacular, firing 4 shutout frames for the Dodgers in one of the gutsiest postseason relief performances you’ll ever see.
And of course, Shohei Ohtani continued to rise in the biggest moments, crushing two home runs including a game-tying blast in the 7th that kept the Dodgers alive.
Full highlights and my favorite Twitter clips from this instant classic are below. If you didn’t stay up for the full game, watch the full video recap here:
Dodgers 6, Blue Jays 5 (18 innings) — Freeman’s walk-off blast ends World Series marathon
Freddie Freeman delivered another signature October moment, blasting a walk-off homer in the bottom of the 18th inning to lift the Dodgers past the Blue Jays, 6–5, in an instant classic at Dodger Stadium. The six-hour, 39-minute thriller tied the 2018 World Series for the longest game in Fall Classic history and gave Los Angeles a 2–1 series lead.
🔑 Key Moments
Teoscar Hernández opened the scoring in the second with a solo shot to left, and Shohei Ohtani followed in the third with a homer to right, giving the Dodgers a 2–0 lead.
The Blue Jays stormed back in the fourth when Alejandro Kirk crushed a three-run homer to center, his fifth of the postseason, putting Toronto ahead 3–2.
In the fifth, Ohtani lined an RBI double to left-center, and Freddie Freeman followed with a game-tying RBI single through the right side to make it 4–4.
Bo Bichette put Toronto back on top in the seventh with an RBI single, scoring Vladimir Guerrero Jr. from first for a 5–4 lead.
The Dodgers responded immediately as Ohtani launched his second homer of the night — a solo shot to left-center — tying the game at 5–5.
Both teams squandered multiple chances through extra innings, highlighted by a relay throw from Teoscar Hernández that cut down Davis Schneider at the plate in the 10th.
In the 12th, Clayton Kershaw entered with the bases loaded and got Nathan Lukes to ground out, preserving the tie.
Finally, in the bottom of the 18th, Freddie Freeman led off against Brendon Little and crushed a sinker 406 feet to center, sending the Dodger Stadium crowd into a frenzy.
